Getting Started
What is Nox?

Nox is a privacy-focused community for people interested in the occult, esotericism, pagan traditions, and meaningful social connections.

I'm new to the occult. Can I join?

Absolutely. You don't need years of experience to become part of the community. Many members are still learning, and Nox is designed to make it easy to meet knowledgeable, respectful people.

    Privacy & Safety
Will people know where I live?

No. Instead, Nox only displays an approximate location, such as your city or general region, to help facilitate local discovery while protecting your privacy.

Can I hide my profile completely?

Yes. Premium members can choose to remain hidden from discovery, using Incognito Mode. Hidden profiles are only visible to people they've already interacted with.

    Can I block someone?

Yes. You can block users at any time. Once blocked, they will no longer be able to interact with you. Blocked users won't be notified that you have blocked them.

    Can I report inappropriate behavior?

Absolutely. If someone is harassing others, impersonating someone else, or violating our community guidelines, you can report their profile. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.

    Discovery
    How does discovery work?

Nox recommends people based on factors such as:

  • Shared traditions
  • Similar practices
  • Common interests
  • Connection goals
  • General location
  • Compatibility between profiles
  • The goal is quality introductions between people who are genuinely compatible, instead of endless swiping.

Can I search for specific traditions?

Yes. You can filter discovery results by traditions, practices, interests, and connection goals to find people who match what you're looking for.

Can I change my profile later?

Of course. Your interests, traditions, goals, and profile information can all be updated whenever you like.

    Embers
    What are Embers?

Embers are the way you express interest in another person.

Instead of sending unlimited likes or messages, you spend an Ember to let someone know you'd like to connect.

If you receive an Ember from another user, you can return one in kind freely to connect with the user — this does not consume one of your own Embers.

    Why does Nox use Embers?

    We believe attention is valuable.

By making interactions intentional rather than unlimited, Embers help reduce spam and encourage more thoughtful connections.

How many Embers do I get?

Free members receive a limited number of Embers each day. Premium members receive unlimited Embers.

    Do Embers expire?

Embers do not expire, though unused daily Embers do not accumulate. Each day provides a fresh opportunity to discover new people.

    Messaging
Can I immediately send messages to everyone?

Direct messaging is intentionally limited — unlike other apps, Nox has no "pay-to-win" mechanic to let you jump directly into someone's inbox.

Users must demonstrate interest in each other via mutual Ember sending. Once both users have done so, the flame of connection is lit, and the two can message each other freely.

Are there limitations on messaging for free users?

No. All users are able to chat freely over private message; we don't require premium membership to talk. There are no limits to chats.

    Nox Membership
    Is Nox free?

Yes. All core features are available without paying, including viewing other people's profiles, connecting with them, and direct messaging.

Premium membership, called Nocturne, unlocks additional convenience and privacy features.

    What does Nocturne include?

Nocturne members receive benefits such as:

  • Unlimited Embers
  • 5 Black Roses per day
  • Incognito option — hide from everyone
  • Advanced search filters
  • See who visited your profile
  • Hide your "last active" information
  • Directly support the growth of Nox
  • Can I cancel Nocturne at any time?

Yes. Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time. Your benefits remain active until the current billing period ends.

    Profiles
What should I include in my profile?

Profiles with thoughtful descriptions generally receive more attention. Consider sharing your path or traditions, practices you enjoy, topics you love discussing, and what you're hoping to find on Nox.

Do I have to upload a photo?

No. Photos are optional, although profiles with photos often receive more engagement.

    Can I use a nickname?

Yes. Many members prefer to use magical names or online aliases instead of their legal names.

    Can I share photos privately?

Yes. Any photo you upload to Nox can be marked as private, including your main profile photo. Private photos are only visible to connections — those you have shared mutual Embers with.

    Philosophy
Why is Nox different from other social platforms?

Nox was built around the idea that meaningful connections are more valuable than endless scrolling. Rather than maximizing engagement, it emphasizes compatibility, intentional interactions, and respect for your privacy.

    Why is it called "Nox"?

"Nox" is the Latin word for "night." It reflects the platform's focus on mystery, introspection, and paths that are often misunderstood or overlooked, while also symbolizing a place where like-minded people can find one another.

Is Nox affiliated with any particular religion or occult tradition?

No. Nox is an independent platform that welcomes people from many traditions and perspectives. Members are free to describe their own beliefs and practices, provided they remain respectful of others.
